Scripture:

Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV “And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”

Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV “He hath made everything beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”

Numbers 23:19 KJVGod is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

Wait: stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens. (Oxford Languages)

Devotion

Think back to the beginning of the year. Many of you wrote down goals with the intentions of accomplishing them as the year progressed. Did everything go as planned? Or, did life happen? Or, do you find yourself waiting for those goals to become a reality?

As I glanced over things I wrote down, for a split second I felt disappointed, because along with what I wrote down I attached the verse “Write the vision, and make it plain...”. And I thought to myself I thought I made it plain what happened? Why am I still waiting for some things to happen? Why is it that everything on my list isn’t checked? Then, I was moved to read the verse again in its entirety, with the verse that followed and it blessed me: “And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Like many others you may have a list of goals. You may feel disappointed with the lack of checks you see, but be encouraged because the latter part of the text is loaded with encouragement: “... though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come...”. Waiting is part of the process whether we like it or not. Don’t get weary in the wait!

Be encouraged knowing that God’s timing supersedes our timing. Hold your head up, pray, gain your strength, and know that you are on God’s mind! He is seeing about you even when you can’t always see Him! Continue to worship and pray while you wait! Stand on His word… “He is not a man that He should lie”! He is STILL keeping His promises

Prayer

Dear Lord,

If I am honest, waiting is not easy at all. I get frustrated and question why I even bother setting goals in the first place. I get discouraged along the way and sometimes my faith fails when I am waiting for what seems to be an eternity. But God I know that no matter how I feel, You are working behind the scenes on my behalf. Strengthen my faith, and give me the strategies I need as I wait for my goals/ dreams to become a reality. When I get weary, please remind me of Your promises! Send help, so that I can wait well. Give me a spirit of prayer in the midst of my waiting. Lord, I thank you for bringing me this far. I love You and I trust You still!

Amen

I also meditated on that scripture in the beginning of the year, I wrote it down and made it plain. We don’t know what the future holds but Thank God we know the God who knows and sees all things.
