Scripture:
II Kings 4:23 NKJV “So he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “It is well.””
Matthew 12:34b NKJV “… For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
Psalms 119:11 NKJV “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
Philippians 4:8 NKJV “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Intentional Inspiration
Yesterday morning, I was searching for a picture, and I stumbled on a video clip that I saved about three years ago from one of my favorite shows Sweet Magnolias. It was when Helen Decatur received some devastating news informing her, she had miscarried. As she left the hospital, she began to sing a portion from the hymn “It Is Well”. “…whatever my lot, has taught me to say, it is well. It is well with my soul.” Whewwwww! Even in that moment, she knew that what she confessed mattered. The abundance of her heart carried a hymn of comfort.
The word declares that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34b, Luke 6:45). When thinking of this verse, I travel in my mind to when my mom would give me a bowl of hot soup Joumou (Haitian Independence Traditional Soup) or a bowl of cereal filled with milk. As I walked to the table, I hoped and prayed that I didn’t bump into anything and risk spilling not one drop on her clean mopped floor. Our abundance is like a bowl of soup that remains full. When life bumps into you, what’s spilling out? Will it be the word of God negativity, worry, or faith? Be intentional about what’s in your abundance by feeding your soul and spirit from the Word of God. Ensure that you are hiding God’s word in your heart so that when life bumps into your what spills over is His word, faith, and whatsoever is true and lovely. Will it be easy at first? No, but when you are intentional on spending time with God, you will be able to build your abundance.
Confidence allows us to say “it is well” when things are not lining up with God’s promise. Like the Shunammite woman (2 Kings 4:8-37), she was given a promise, she believed, and she had a son. The one day her son dies. She could have fallen apart and mourn the loss, but she decided that this was not over. She declared that it was well. She had history with God and knew His mode of operation (MO). God did not give her a promise just to take it away. Her abundance was filled with faith and confidence in God so much so, it carried her to Elisha who God had used to deliver a word to her. As the story continues, it ends with her son coming back to life.
What are you facing that you need to declare “it is well” like Helen and the Shunammite woman did? I want you to gather your strength and declare “IT IS WELL” out loud. You may have to scream it out, you may have tears running down your face, you may have to say multiple times until it grabs a hold of your spirit and environment, but whatever you do declare “IT IS WELL”. Build up your abundance by spending time in prayer and studying God’s word. Speak what God says and say it with conviction! He will direct your path. Trust Him!
🙏🏾 Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank you for reminding me that no matter what it looks, it is STILL well! Thank you for being a good, good father to me in times when I need you the most. As I walk through this faith journey, help me to say what you say. Help me to exude your character when life bumps into me with different challenges. Build me up where I am torn down and strengthen my faith as I read your word and spend time with You. Fill the abundance of my heart with YOU. Oh God…my desire is to make you proud as I grow in You. May my posture reveal your glory to others as they see how I navigate through life with Your strength. Help me not to taint my witness in frustration but help me to yield to You and Your will. I love you, Lord.
Amen!
