Scripture

Exodus 3:10-12 (NIV) 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you[a] will worship God on this mountain.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Devotion

What have you been wanting to do, but find yourself scared to do it? Are you doubting yourself? Does the task seem to be too laborious? What is holding you back?

Many of us have so many ideas, dreams, and desires that we want to accomplish. We’ve envisioned what it would be like to take that leap of faith, yet we find that we are too scared to move on with the idea or dream. We find ourselves thinking of the different “what ifs”. What if I fail? What if it is a total disaster? We think about our inadequacies. We fear that others will highlight our weaknesses and minimize our strengths. Then we talk ourselves out of moving in faith. However, in this season moving in faith will require us to do it scared.

If we look at our selected scripture, we find that God was calling Moses to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses immediately says to God “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? (Exodus 3:11) Whewwww! How many times have we counted ourselves out first just like Moses did? Now studying who Moses was, you will remember that he had a speech impediment. He stuttered and God knew this and still sent him to talk to Pharaoh. Despite how Moses felt about himself, God knew Moses could do it, just like God knows that we can do whatever we are anointed and called to do. In the next verse God, reassures Moses and reminds him that He would be with him. (Exodus 3:12) This is our comfort… we may have to do it scared, but we never do it alone!

DO IT SCARED! It is time to prepare and get moving on purpose. First, we must trust that God knows all of us. When I say He knows all of us, I am talking about everything that concerns us as a people. He knows our strengths and weaknesses and yet He still calls us to do great things. Next, we must see ourselves the way God sees us. We cannot allow our fear to cause us to remain stagnant. Finally, we must make up in our mind that we are going to do it…even if we are scared because we are not alone. God’s word restores are confidence by reminding us that He will never leave or forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for seeing me as great despite how I see myself. Thank you for loving me through all sides of me! Truth is, many times I feel inadequate for the places you want to take me. I feel that I do not have all the tools for what you are showing that you want me to do, but I am learning to grab on to faith. Thank you for constantly reminding me of your word that you are with me. Thank you for sending the right people to build me up and not tear me down. Thank you for the purpose you have in my life. God, as I prepare to do it scared, strengthen my faith. Don’t allow me to count myself out. Help me to see me how you see me. Help me to speak life in my own life and not death, discouragement, or failure. Thank you for reminding me that I may have to do it scared, but I will never be alone, because you are with me! I love you Lord!

Amen

Amen! This has been heavy on me for a couple of days. This morning, I heard a message stating not to let fear cripple you and do it scared. I went to get my nails done and my nail tech asked me what is keeping me from doing what I need to do, we talked about the fear and when you finally take the leap of faith, how you will wish you did it earlier and now this, you wrapped it up in a nice little bow to encourage me to do it scared, wow! I hear you Lord, help my unbelief and give me the strength to do it scared.
